Eligibility: Open to all U.S. and Canadian artists.
Entry Fee: A non-refundable fee of $20.00
will be charged for each non-member entry to
assist with Exhibition and publication costs. Please
make checks payable to: The Southern Vermont
Arts Center, and include with entry.
Media and Size: All media, the exception
being installation pieces and video; gallery
space is prohibitive of such endeavors. Oil Paintings
must be framed, ready for hanging with eye
screws and wire. Watercolors, Graphic Art, Pastels
& Photography must be matted, framed with
glass or plexi-glass, ready for hanging with eye
screws and wire. Sizes not to exceed 36 x 40 inches.
Sculptures must not exceed 50lbs and the longest
dimension cannot exceed 48 inches.
Sculptors must be physically able to carry their own
pieces; the Arts Center does not have personnel to
assist with delivery and pickup. Works not properly
framed, ready for hanging, or works over
the size limit will not be accepted.
Sales: Artwork submitted must be for sale. A
contribution of 40% of the retail amount received
will be taken by the SVAC . SVAC reserves the
right to sell in three installments. Works sold must
stay in the show until October 26th, 2008. Payment
to the artists for pieces sold will be made as soon as
SVAC has been paid in full by the purchaser, after
the show ends.
Procedure: Each artist may submit two
entries of recent work (2007-2008). These entries
may be either two slides, a CD or two physical
pieces, which need to be available for sale.
Delivery of works for Physical
Jury Presentation: Artists wishing
to submit actual work for consideration in person,
rather than slide submission, may hand deliver
their work September 16th - 18th for presentation
to the Juror on September 19th, 2008. Information
about accepted and rejected work will be
made available September 26th, 2008.
Notice of Acceptance: A list of accepted works
will be posted on the SVAC website: www.svac.org
on September 26th. It is the responsibility of the
artists to visit the web site or phone the Arts Center
on September 26th to find out if their works have
been accepted. The Arts Center will not call artists
regarding acceptance.
Labels: Enclosed are two white label-sets. Please
attach 1 complete label-set to the top left hand corner
of the back side of each work submitted (Each
label set will contain duplicate information. Do Not
Detach completed label set.) The duplicated information
will aid in cataloguing the exhibition. Be sure
information on each label set is attached to the appropriate
art piece and that the information on the label
set agrees with the information on the entry blank.
Works with incomplete or conflicting labeling information
will automatically be rejected.
Removal of Work: Removal dates for
works not selected for exhibition are September
26th & 27th. (11:00 am - 4:00 pm) and September
28th( 1.00-4.00pm). Removal dates for work selected
are: October 26th (12:00 - 4:00 pm) , 28th &
29th: (11:00 am - 4:00 pm).
*Works left in the Arts Center’s care following
the listed dates will incur a $5.00 a week surcharge,
and will become the property of the
Arts Center after a 6 month period; with no
extra notice to the artist.
Liability: Every reasonable care will be exercised
in the handling and storage of works submitted
to the exhibit, but neither the Southern Vermont
Arts Center nor its agents, will be responsible
for loss or damage no matter how it may occur,
and accepts no liability whatsoever in any form,
resulting from the entry, acceptance or rejection of
exhibits or from any other matter connected with
the exhibit.
Artists may insure their own works if they wish.
The sending of works of art to this exhibit shall be
understood to imply agreement on the part of the
sender with the conditions set forth above. Your
signature on the entry blank confirms your compliance
with these conditions.
Slide/CD Submission: All 35 mm
slides accompanying the entry form must be labeled
properly ( artist’s name, title, date, medium, size,
top, and front of the piece) and be contained in a
clear plastic slide sheet. Each slide & CD must also
be numbered or named to correspond with a
checklist of the same information submitted on a
typed sheet of paper, including prices.
Enclose a current resume, and a self-addressed
stamped envelope (SASE) if you want your slides
or CD returned. Please do not send originals, copies
are preferred. Slides/CDs cannot be picked
up at the opening reception.
Slides /CDs Due: Slides/CDs, checklist,
and entry fee must be received no later than
August 1st, 2008. Slide Jury will take place on August
7th. Notification of acceptance will be given by
August 14th, 2008. Due to limited storage space,
works that are shipped cannot exceed 36” X 40”
including frame.
Delivery &/or Shipping
Works accepted by Slide Jury: Once accepted by slide jury, work can be
shipped directly to SVAC. All shipped work must
include a $10 handling fee, along with accurate payment
for return shipping. Artists may also hand
deliver their accepted artwork: September 16th
through 18th, between the hours of 11am and 4
pm. All works must have completed entry information
and identification labels-sets upon arrival. If a
piece is purchased, the cost of return shipping will
be refunded to the Artist.
Juror: Michael Glier Professor of Art at Williams College, Williamstown,
MA.
A recipient of numerous awards and fellowships,
including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
Fellow in Painting and the National Endowment
for the Arts Fellowship in Drawing, his work has been
shown in solo exhibitions, including: the Annina Nosei
Gallery, New York, the Barbara Gladstone Gallery, New
York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the San
Jose Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the
Fine Arts, the Southern Vermont Arts Center, and the
Barbara Krakow Gallery, Boston.
Select Group Exhibitions include: the Whitney Museum
of American Art, New York and the Corcoran Gallery
of Art, Washington, D.C. An internationally exhibited
artist, his work is in several permanent installations,
including “Goerdeler Monument” 1999 in the City of
Leipzig, Germany, in collaboration with Jenny Holzer.
Reception: A public reception, hosted by SVAC will be held
Saturday, September 27th from 2:00-4:00pm in the
Yester House Galleries.
Awards: Three Juror’s Choice artists will receive a $300 cash
award for distinction with regard to the principles of
aesthetics and design. Awards will be announced during
the panel discussion on Saturday, September 27th.
Conversations with Artists As part of our ongoing informal discussion
of aspects of traditional and contemporary art
and ideas, there will be a free panel discussion from
12:30-1:30pm, prior to the opening reception in Gallery
Two, Yester House.
Participating in the discussion will be 52nd National
Fall Open Exhibition juror, Michael Glier and 52nd
National Fall Open Exhibition featured artists, Virginia
Webb and Arthur Jones. There will be an opportunity
for the audience to ask questions of the
panelists.

detailed information will be mailed to you prior to each show.

calendar of exhibits repeats each year.
The Collectors’ Gallery
June - September
This is not an exhibition selected by jurors, rather gallery
space reserved to showcase Artist Members’ work intermittently
throughout the summer season. Limited to 2 works. Open to all
Artist Members. All work must be hand delivered.
Annual Members’ Exhibition
May - June
Artist Members with a residence in Vermont or within a thirty
mile radius of the Arts Center may submit up to three pieces
for this juried exhibition. At least one work is guaranteed
to be selected for this exhibit. All works must be hand delivered.
SVAC does not accept any work for this show that is shipped.
Solo Exhibitions
July 31 deadline
Open to all artists, members and non-members, who work in painting
in any medium, mixed medium, photography and indoor or outdoor
sculpture. Solo show applications are for the next year’s
summer and winter exhibition seasons. See fees listed below.
Solo Exhibition Application Guidelines
Applicants for Solo Shows must submit a resume, six slides indicative
of material intended for exhibition, retail price list, a $10
handling fee, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for slide
return. Address applications to the Visual Arts Committee. Notification
is made in November. Chosen exhibitors incur a charge of $200
to defray expenditures on invitations, placement in the Arts
Center’s catalog, and publicity.
SVAC Policy
This year the Arts Center will receive a 40% commission on all
works sold.
Although every effort will be made to return slides, the Arts
Center assumes no responsibility for them and requests that
only duplicates be submitted for consideration. All artists
are requested to pick up their work on the dates set for each
show, including Collector’s Gallery exhibits.
