55th National Fall Open Exhibition
The 55th National Fall Open Exhibition is a juried exhibition open to both members and non-members. It is advertised nationally and draws entries from across the country. Over 150 works of art are included in this prestigious exhibition. Featured Artists: Paul Bowen & Thomas Ostenberg. PAUL BOWEN - Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, Bowen received a diploma in Art and Design, Newport College of Art, Wales, and an M.F.A. from Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore. Recent exhibitions include: 2008 Paul Bowen, Drawings, Hopkins Center, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH; and 2004 Paul Bowen, Sculpture, DNA Gallery, Provincetown, MA. His work is in many museum, public and corporate collections, including: DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, MA; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY; and Boston Public Library, Boston, MA.
THOMAS OSTENBERG - was born in Nebraska, and earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University in 1975. He became Vice President of Citibank in Brazil and Spain, and in 1986, an independent International Financial Consultant. In 1994 he earned his B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute, and in 1997, his M.A. from the Royal College of Art in London, England, with a grant from the Henry Moore Foundation. Now a full time sculptor, his work is in many prestigious collections and is represented by galleries throughout England, the United States and Europe.
Guest Jurors:
JANICE IZZI - was director and head of merchandising at the Vermont Country Store for over 25 years. She and her life partner, Lyman Orton, in collaboration with the Vermont Arts Council, developed the concept for the traveling Art of Action exhibition, whose mission was to create art that engaged with Vermonters concerning issues that affected their future. This exhibit traveled to the SVAC in May 2010.
JANET VAN FLEET - Vermont artist Janet Van Fleet is a founder of Studio Place Arts in Barre, VT, and director of the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education, a statewide organization promoting dance, music, theater, and visual arts education in Vermont. A reviewer for Art New England, and a curator for many significant projects, including the Art of Action, she also created the central gateway exhibit for the Environmental Exhibit Collaborative, Smart Art, Exploring Science and Art.
JOHN ZWICK - is a painter, designer and art consultant. Founder of J. Zwick & Associates, an interdisciplinary design and communications group, he has worked with architectural, interior and landscape designers, engineers, fabricators, visual and performance artists, as well as community groups, seeking creative, site-specific site solutions. He served as director for the Art of Action for the Vermont Arts Council
