Oil Floral Still Life with Christopher Pierce

Students in this workshop will learn about painting beautiful floral still lifes. Emphasis will be on aspects that make up a strong painting including color, color values, composition, and techniques on how to apply paint in a fresh, lush, and subtle manner. Also stressed will be the importance of setting up and composing a still life and learning how the effects of good lighting can strengthen a painting. Students should be able to gain confidence and appreciate individuality of style from this workshop. Individual attention is stressed. The workshop is for painters who have had some drawing and oil painting experience. Minimum 6/Maximum 10 students.  Download materials list HERE.

Christopher Pierce is a nationally recognized fine artist specializing in florals, still life, portraits, figures, and interiors with panache and a mature sensitivity. Along with his stunning portraiture, he is well known for the huge and commanding florals that come from the bounty of his gardens. In a year marked by rising national acclaim, his painting "Alex" was chosen as a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine’s 2010 competition. The Artist’s Magazine featured a six page article on his work in their June 2011 issue and Studios magazine featured a 7-page article on Pierce’s studio in Shushan, NY. In 2008 his painting "Sunflowers and Peacock Vase" won the Helen DeCozen award for florals at the American Artists Professional League Grand National Exhibition in New York City. In 2006, his portrait "The Gardener" won First Prize at the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists annual competition. Pierce has been elected to the National Arts Club in New York City, and is also a member of the Salmagundi Club, the American Artists Professional League, Audubon Artists, and the Hudson Valley Art Association.   www.christopherpiercestudio.com
