Painting in Mass with Karen Winslow
The secret to creating an illusion of light, form, space and depth depends of the artistʼs ability to simplify what he/she is looking at (still life set-up, model, landscape, etc.) into simple value shapes, or patterns of light and dark. In this class, you will learn to use a controlled palette (with a grayscale) to help you analyze value, color and spatial relationships, and paint in mass rather than fill in outlines. Painting in mass frees the artist to draw and paint simultaneously, and gives the painting greater harmony and unity. We will be exploring still life and plein air landscape (weather permitting). Oils, pastels and watercolors. All levels. Minimum 6/Maximum 12 students. Download a materials list HERE.
