Plein Air to Studio, Painting the Landscape with Andrew Orr
Andrew Orr will present a 3 day oil painting class using materials gathered on location as the basis for a larger, more completed composition in the studio. The primary emphasis of this class will be on painting trees and the importance of such in the overall composition of the painting. Depending on weather, the class will meet on location for one day, with the remainder of the two days to be spent in the SVAC studios. Andrew Orr combines realism and touches of impressionism to create paintings that reflect his love of nature and beauty. His paintings are direct and rich expressing his passion for light and life. Andrew began painting at an early age. His training includes courses at the University of New Mexico, study with Carol McIlroy, David P. Curtis and Joseph McGurl. His work has shown in galleries throughout the United States, has won awards with National juried exhibitions and has been featured in several one-person exhibitions. He has won many awards including the Barbara Carter Award for Excellence from the Oil Painters of America and the Arthur T Hill Award for a Landscape from the Salmagundi Club. Listed in Who’s Who in America, Andrew is a member of the Salmagundi Club, NY the American Artists Professional League, the Oil Painters of America, The American Impressionists Society and the Southern Vermont Arts Center. In addition to serving as both a judge and juror, he is a recognized instructor giving frequent seminars, demonstrations and lectures on his painting techniques throughout the United States and abroad. In 2005 and 2007, Orr participated as a guest artist/lecturer at the convention, show and sale of the Australasian International Porcelain Artist League, in Adelaide, South Australia and Melbourne. www.andreworr.com
