Sculptural Elements in 3D Clay with Elaine Witten
This four day sculpture workshop will teach students the artistic elements of sculpture. The goal will be for each student to build a wire armature for either a standing figure, standing animal or a portrait and then carry this to completion in clay ready for casting. Idea and other reference materials will be provided; students are also welcome to bring pictorial ideas of what they wish to sculpt. We will discuss if the subject is appropriate for their level of experience and for casting. Armature parts, wood bases, wire, and twenty pound of oil based clay per student will be available for purchase directly from the instructor at cost. A materials list with a very few common household items will also be sent to each student. Elaine Witten’s DVD on the lost wax method of bronze casting will be shown during the workshop. This workshop is appropriate for beginners as well as returning sculptors. Minimum 6/Maximum 12 students. Download a materials list HERE.
