“Workshops with Robert Carsten, P.S.A inspired me to begin working with pastels, combining my love of drawing and painting. My current work focuses on birds and animals. Through close observation and attention to detail, I convey their individual personality and relationship to the environment. I reveal the spirit and intelligence of these beings while capturing their beauty.”
After receiving her B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design, Lesley Heathcote moved to New York City where she worked in the field of photography while exploring her creativity as a painter. After twenty years, she relocated to Vermont, returning to a place she loved as a child which led to a change in her style of painting, from symbolic to realistic. Workshops with Robert Carsten, P.S.A. inspired her to begin working with pastels, combining her love of drawing and painting. Her current work focuses on birds and animals. Through close observation and attention to detail, she conveys their individual personality and relationship to the environment. She reveals the spirit and intelligence of these beings while capturing their beauty. Heathcote has shown her work throughout New England and New York City to include Times Square Gallery, NYC, Hunter Gallery, Grafton, VT and in numerous Southern Vermont Arts Center and Windham Art Gallery exhibitions. She has permanent collections at the Vermont Veterans Home, Bennington, Casa Rita Women’s Shelter, Bronx, NY and her outdoor mural “Under the Sea” resides in New York, NY.
