Keith Hoffman
GALLERY IV

“I find that Vermont’s indubitable attractiveness speaks to people from all areas of the country, and indeed to people all over the world. I find the barns, streams and fields of Vermont offer a major part of motivation for painting.”

Keith Hoffman is a self-taught artist who received much encouragement as a youngster from family members who were illustrators and art directors. His original medium of interest was watercolor and he was fortunate in his youth not to be intimidated by its well-known reputation for capriciousness. He continued to paint for his own pleasure for a good number of years until galleries started to hear about his work and he was offered representation in several of them.

Hoffman, a Long Island resident, shortly there-after made his debut as a professional, became a member and president of the Art League of Nassau County and the Salmagundi Club, began to demonstrate and teach watercolor in numerous venues, and won prizes in art shows. Then, on relocating to Vermont, famous for the beauty of its mountains, streams and fields, Hoffman soon became one of Vermont’s best-known watercolorists and president of West River Artists.

Hoffman now paints in acrylic as well as watercolor and, as a resident of Pennsylvania, teaches and demonstrates painting for local area schools. He continues to use Vermont as a major inspiration for his work, however, and to be a favorite with patrons of the Southern Vermont Arts Center.
