Thomas Kerr combines his love of photography with his painting by capturing the rural landscape first in photographs and then later, in the studio, reinterpreting the photographs in pastel, working quickly at first, spontaneously, then coming back to rework. "I love observing the hand of man on the landscape", says Kerr. "I am also attracted to barns and their stately presence on the landscape. During my 30 years in the area, I have watched many of the great barns disappear and feel an urgency to document their existence."
