Although primarily a figurative painter, Oscar Trugler has recently undertaken a series of landscapes that are personal statements that seek to reclaim some of paintings’ old territories. "At some point," Trugler says, "I realized that events and things that may have the most impact, or consequence, are usually out of view, not in focus right in front of you. These landscapes dwell on that place where nothing is really happening, although they imply something occurring nearby or just slightly out of view. These landscapes thus become painterly constructions within set elements such as sky, horizon and water. They also fall within my modernist urge, yet are true to the classical landscape with all those sensibilities." Trugler has exhibited worldwide, has sold to private collections in Asia, Europe and the US, and holds gallery affiliations in his native Netherlands, New York, Vermont, and California.
