GALLERY IX
Nancy Burgess combines elements of traditional landscape painting
with sculpture in a unique style of "relief oil painting,"
sculpting a three-dimensional relief sculpture and then painting
the surface with oils using traditional methods. Most of Burgess’
pieces are representative of the Vermont landscape and its architecture;
her art aims, in fact, to preserve the beauty and character of its
subject by elevating it in the viewer’s eye. – are ultimately
framed in shadow boxes. The multi award-winning Burgess is represented
in collections throughout North America and Europe and has exhibited
at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, Connecticut; the Clinton
Art Society in Clinton, Connecticut; the Rockport Art Association
in Rockport, Massachusetts, as well as here at SVAC; she is represented
by The Loring Gallery in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Nancy Burgess
lives in southern Vermont with her husband and two cats. |
