"I’ve recently been exploring the art of assemblage,"
says multimedia artist Phyllis Demong. "In the past I have
done paintings and collages and prints, and I still do. Just now,
I am intrigued with bringing all of the elements of that work together,
with the addition of other materials, to create a sort of visual
poetry. In the visual arts, when poetry ‘happens,’ it
is in a silent dialogue between the viewer and the artist –
a meeting of the eye and the mind. If that dialogue occurs, the
poetry is as much yours as mine." Demong is a graduate of the
College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University, from which she was
awarded the George Arents Medal, the school’s highest alumni
award for outstanding achievement in the arts. She maintains studios
in Cornwall, Vermont, and in East Orleans, on Cape Cod. |
