GALLERY I
"I work on site to develop a landscape painting," says
Suzanne Chamlin. "The light, time of day and colors that I
view, all influence my working process. In my most recent paintings,
I focus on the scale of objects and shapes during the beginning
stages of the painting." Through the process of developing
the composition, she connects and familiarizes herself with the
subject. The first stage of her painting process is a meditation
and translation of an observed subject, working to make changes
in the painting until the piece becomes "its own." In
the later stages, she focuses more on the painting and less on the
painting’s initial, outside inspiration. A recipient of artist
residencies in both the US and Europe, Ms. Chamlin’s works
are in the collections of the National Gallery of Art in Washington,
DC; The Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven; and the Nelson Atkins
Museum, in Kansas City, Missouri. |
