It could be said that artist and long-time SVAC instructor Thomas Torak is a "painter’s painter." Inspired by the commonplace – those familiar, everyday objects that surround him – Torak paints with a vigor that speaks of enthusiasm for both his subject matter and for the visceral act of applying brushwork. His richly colored still lifes and atmospheric landscapes, though boldly painted, convey a sense of quiet liveliness. A professional artist for more than 30 years, Torak’s oils have graced the exhibition halls of, among others, the National Academy Museum, the New Orleans Art Association, the Butler Institute of American Art, and the Springfield Museum of Fine Art. His awards are too numerous to mention in total, but they include gold medals from the American Artists Professional League and the Audubon Artists, and the Honor Award of the Academic Artists Association’s 50th National Exhibition of Contemporary Realism.
