Eva Mathiasen
1929-2001: A RETROSPECTIVE
ENTRANCE GALLERY
Eva Mathiasen pursued formal artistic training in her beloved Denmark, where artists are revered and natural beauty abounds. She enjoyed the challenge of many media, including watercolor, oil and pastel. She favored pastel, however, because, as she put it, "the process is less labored. Despite the vast difference between pastel and oil, animated daubs of color and texture give similar impressionistic effects." It is no wonder that her florals and garden scenes reverberate with her admiration of the Impressionists. Eva Mathiasen won many prestigious awards and her work is in museum, gallery and corporate collections throughout the United States. A most accomplished pastel artist, Eva Mathiasen was a much loved and admired artist member of the Arts Center. This show is a tribute to her legacy.
