"Susan Abbott is an extraordinary artist who creates panoramic watercolors that are breathtaking in their exquisite detail. Like a brilliant photographer, her still arrangements seize a moment in time to dazzling effect" -Sarah Ban Breathnach
For Vermont artist Susan Abbott, a "sense of place" is about how a place makes her feel. She has traveled extensively to find inspiration for her landscape and still life painting, and has painted and taught in India, Italy, France, the UK., Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica.
Susan Abbott graduated with a B.F.A. in painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, received a M.F.S. from the Institutes Hoffberger School of Painting, and has studied printmaking in the graduate program at the University of Iowa. She is a professional artist exhibiting frequently in galleries and museums around the country. Her work has been featured at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, the Museum of Technology, Hood College, Frederick, MD, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Her painting was featured in the show "Objects of Personal Significance," which toured museums around the United States. She has had numerous one-person shows of her large-scale watercolor and oil still life paintings and plein air landscape, and has been a recipient of a Maryland Art Council "Individual Artist Award" and the Vermont Arts Council "Creation Grant". In 2009, she was selected in an international competition as one of ten artists commissioned by the "Art of Action" project to create a suite of paintings addressing the subject of the "future of Vermont". Ms. Abbott's paintings are represented in many private and corporate collections and her commission for Oprah Winfrey was featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
