Robert O’Brien

GALLERY IX

“One of my main objectives in watercolor painting is to create light through the use of shadow. In painting ordinary images, I find a fascinating interplay between the two. The transparency of the medium helps in bringing shadows alive while allowing the light to glow.”

Robert O’Brien has been painting in the watercolor medium for over 35 years. He is a signature member of the American and National Watercolor Societies and is a full time artist and instructor. Robert recently won, in 2009, The Philadelphia Watercolor Society Award at the 89th National Watercolor Society Exhibition in Brea, California; also, the Silver Medal at the 2008 New England Watercolor Society’s juried members show in Boston and the Bradley C. Barnard Award at the 27th Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors. His work was featured in the December 2007 issue of Watercolor Magic magazine and most recently, Splash 11, the Best of Watercolor. This exhibition features a range of subjects which continue to appeal to and challenge the artist’s eye.
