Frank Mason
A Retrospective to 1921

GALLERY 1

Frank Mason is one of the most acclaimed American painters and teachers of our time. An instructor at the prestigious Art Students League of New York since 1951, Frank Mason’s portrait commissions include Prince Giacchino Colonna of Venice, Bishop Austin Pardue, John Cardinal Wright, Governor Averell Harriman, Col. Earl “Red” Blaik of West Point Military Academy and Dr. Christian J. Lambertson. Mr. Mason’s canvases on the life of St. Anthony of Padua may be seen, alongside a painting by Bellini, in the Church of San Giovanni di Malta in Venice. In recognition of these paintings, the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights of St. John of Malta bestowed upon Mr. Mason the Cross of Merit, Prima Classe, thus granting him an honor unique among artists of this or any recent era; it is believed that the last artists to be so distinguished were Mattia Pretti and Caravaggio.
