Gregg is an “avid fisherman who prefers to paint.”

Gregg Wapner has used many media throughout the years to capture the endless beauty of the bodies of water here in Vermont. His palette changes and varies with each season, as many of the areas throughout the state can look different with the time of day and year. Sources of inspiration are never ending, from the cold days of winter fishing on vast layers of ice to the warm new spring days when the streams flow free and the colors of summer are just making an appearance. Wapner’s work is influenced by Winslow Homer and Andrew Wyeth, and has been exhibited in solo and group shows at the Southern Vermont Arts Center and throughout New England.

Critic Anne Lawrence Guyon wrote in her 2008 Art New England review of Wapner’s work, “ Eloquent in its reductive force, Wapner’s work homes in on fundamental, organic contours and depths of field, achieving sublime tranquility without being romantic. It is this rough-hewn, elemental purity that galvanizes his distinct themes and significant skills into a fresh, invigorating vision.”
