Helen Young
GALLERY I with Stanley Bielen and Nancy Tips Born in Siberia in 1937, the largely self-taught Ukrainian artist, Helen Young, did not begin painting in earnest until the late 1980’s. In early 2000 she took a workshop at the Great River Arts Institute, Bellows Falls with Stanley Bielen. Although she has continued to develop her own direction and style, this exhibition has provided a welcome opportunity for these artists to come together.
Young paints in an impressionistic style and often uses a close up point of view in her landscapes and flower still lifes, which is in some ways reminiscent of the work of artists such as Vuillard and Morandi. Most of her painting is small in scale, alla prima on panels or gessoed paper. She has shown regularly at the Southern Vermont Arts Center, and has exhibited in many regional group shows.
