Fresh Paint Auction
Arkell Pavilion
August 14, 2009     5:30 p.m.

Here’s how it works… Carolyn Conte, Mary Gerster and Barbara Melhado, Co-chairs of the Fresh Paint Auction, asked local Artist Members and a select number of visiting guest artists to take part in this special fund-raising art auction and they have, to an artist, responded enthusiastically. Some 40-plus artists are expected to complete one or more paintings, either in studio or en plein air, which will, in turn, be going home with the lucky highest bidders. Auctioneer Maryann Lukas returns by popular demand. Paintings can be previewed, with drinks, hors d’oeuvres and live music, at 5:30 p.m. in the Arkell Pavilion; the auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Art on the Hill
Throughout the Campus
September 19, 2009     11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Now in its fifth year, Art on the Hill is arguably the Arts Center’s most popular family event. A project of the Outreach Program, this free annual event is designed to introduce area families to the arts and show those folks who may not be familiar with SVAC’s campus that we are a welcoming – and fun! – place for all ages. Moms, dads and kids of all ages are invited to participate in a variety of hands-on artistic media and to have a whole lot of fun in the bargain.
Last year saw some 500 folks come through the gate and partake in everything from face, mural and watercolor painting, spin art, jewelry design, making musical instruments, scrapbooking, button making and chalk drawing. A vintage style photo booth, live music by Deb Zaccheo, a terrific barbeque, a raffle, scavenger hunts and guided tours rounded out the day’s offerings.
This year’s event is still in the planning stages but we can guarantee that it will be bigger and better than ever!

Presented in partnership with SVAC
Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Made in Vermont Music Festival
Arkell Pavilion
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.

Alan Jordan and Christopher Madkour invite you to a magical evening of Vermont music. Autumn in Vermont signals the return of gorgeous foliage and also gorgeous music, as the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Made in Vermont Music Festival tour visits all corners of the state. For the Arkell Pavilion performance, Principal Guest Conductor Anthony Princiotti and the VSO present a program brimming with melodic riches: an arrangement of a Mozart string quartet; Bizet’s charming Jeux d’enfants (Childrens’ Games); and Haydn’s marvelous Symphony No. 82 (“The Bear”).  This year’s world premiere commission is by Derrik Jordan, of Brattleboro, who pays tribute in his piece to the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial.
Tickets: $22 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and over, and $12 for students; available from September 1 at Northshire Bookstore, Manchester, through Flynn Tix at 802-86-FLYNN, and at www.vso.org.

Scottish Winter Ball
Equinox Resort
Saturday, December 5, 2009

One of the season’s most spectacular fund-raisers, the “Members’ Only” Scottish Winter Ball brings out the gala in all attendees. The beautifully decorated Equinox Colonnade Ballroom sets the stage as revelers arrive in their favorite ball gowns, tuxedoes and kilts – that’s correct, gentlemen, kilts – to enjoy a traditional Scottish feast that commences with the “piping in” of the haggis, with honest-to-goodness bagpipes. Traditional delicacies, wonderfully prepared and presented, follow, as does dancing into the wee hours. Invitations will be sent to members.
