A free community event at SVAC’s clay studio! Join us to learn how to reclaim clay!
We will be learning about clay and its attributes, and specifically talking about the clay “body” we use in the studio. Help us reclaim clay and learn the process along the way.
We will be using our hands and bare feet to wedge and mix the clay. Wear clothes that are okay to get dirty, and join us for a fun event of learning for all ages!
About Zena Verda Pesta
Zena is a maker of ceramics, quilts, and supper, a grower of food, nurturer of partnerships and roller dancer. She currently teaches Art, Lifeskills, and Afterschool at Red Fox Community School. She has taught ceramics, social studies, pattern making/sewing, outdoor crafts, fire making, cooking, and other hands-on subjects in preschool and all the way to adult learners. Working with hundreds of artists/designers and educators, Zena has developed curriculum for over 500 workshops. She meets people where they are and values the importance of communication and feedback in a workshop environment. She feels very strongly about the power of hands-on experiential and immersive learning. Zena’s ceramic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She has been an artist-in-residence in Jingdezhen, China. Her work has been highlighted in The New York Times, W Magazine, and in Japan.
