Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Southern Vermont Arts Center! Because we are a nonprofit organization with a small staff, we rely on volunteer support to ensure our season of art, performances, and classes goes smoothly. Below are available SVAC volunteer positions. If you are interested in any of these positions or have another skill you'd like to share with us, please fill out a volunteer application.

GALLERY ATTENDANTS are the first point of contact for visitors to the Arts Center and play an important part in creating a positive visitor experience at SVAC. Gallery Attendants provide support at the front desk of either Wilson Museum or Yester House Galleries. They answer phones and general inquiries, process artwork sales, greet and assist visitors, add visitor information to our email list, and provide general administrative support. Gallery attendants may work either half or full day shifts and preferably have regular availability during all or for some portion of our season (May-October).

EXHIBIT ASSISTANTS provide hands-on assistance prepping and hanging our art exhibits in Yester House Galleries and the Wilson Museum throughout the season. Exhibit assistants help process incoming artwork, hang pieces in the galleries, create and hang labels, and put artwork into storage after exhibits end.

EVENT SUPPORT volunteers provide support before, during, and after art events, including the opening receptions for each exhibit. Event support volunteers help set up tables and SVAC materials, greet visitors, promote SVAC programming and membership, serve food and drink, and clean up after events.

MEDIA ASSISTANTS capture important moments at SVAC and help us tell stories surrounding each exhibit, performance, and event. Because we have a small staff, SVAC appreciates volunteers with specific skills in photography and video. Media assistants take photos and/or videos at events, edit photos and/or videos for social media, and help us craft newsletters and creative content. Media assistants use their own cameras and any other relevant equipment.

PROMOTIONAL ASSISTANTS distribute promotional materials to a list of preferred vendors and hotels in Manchester, Arlington, Stratton, Bondville, and Dorset mid-month each month of our season. Promotional assistants may work alone or with a friend. Promotional assistants use their own vehicle, and SVAC reimburses for gas mileage.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS help SVAC run smoothly behind the scenes. They create mailings, stuff envelopes, file documents in the business office, maintain event guest lists and update RSVPs, and perform other general administrative tasks as needed.

GARDEN/GROUNDS ASSISTANTS keep SVAC looking pristine. They weed garden beds, plant flowers, remove sticks from the lawn, and provide general grounds assistance. This a periodic, as-needed volunteer position. If you have specific experience with other aspects of grounds maintenance and would like to volunteer your skills, please make a note of this in your volunteer application.

BOX OFFICE/USHER VOLUNTEERS ensure that the concerts and performances in our 400-seat venue Arkell Pavilion run smoothly. Ushers help to direct and inform concert attendees. Box office assistants take tickets and sell tickets at the door. You may attend any show that you work for free! Most performances are on Friday evenings.
