Opening Reception: Saturday, July 6 from 2-4 p.m.
Exhibition on view: July 6-August 4, 2019
Guest Curator: Warren Broderick

This exhibition features around twenty seasonal paintings by Arthur Gibbes Burton (1883-1969), an Impressionist artist from Windham County whose nearly forty-year career produced many landscapes of the West River Valley in Newfane, Brookline and Townshend.

Burton was a long-time member of the Southern Vermont Arts Center, where he exhibited frequently between 1927 and 1955. SVAC held a solo exhibition of his work in 1954.  He donated Spring Farm to SVAC’s Permanent Collection in 1959.

The exhibition will also feature examples of his sketches and other ephemera from his papers in the Archives of the Bennington Museum. These materials will illuminate his creative process in the production of a painting.
