Join author/artist Julie Merwin to re-imagine a wonderful hoax.

In 1917, two little sisters fooled the London newspapers–and even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, celebrated creator of the great detective Sherlock Holmes–by making photographs of what they swore were the “Cottingley Fairies,” real fairies living in the woods near their home. We will re-create their method, drawing gnomes, fairies and other magical creatures, bring them to life using watercolor and scissors, then photograph them in their “natural habitat.” Kids who have completed Hobbit Houses Camp are more than welcome to bring and use those creations, but Hobbit House Camp is NOT required for participants in Magical Photography.

Bring your camera or your phone. All other materials provided. Class is mostly outdoors–rain date is the following day. Covid protocols will be in place.

To register by phone or email, please contact Erin Kaufman at ekaufman@svac.org or 802-367-1306. Limited scholarships available.
