There, Through the Broken Branches, Go: Patty Hudak
Exhibition on View: September 5 – November 1, 2020
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 5 from 3 – 5 p.m.

As part of the Women Take Wilson Exhibition, SVAC will feature artist Patty Hudak.

For Women Take Wilson, her large-scale installation, “There, Through the Broken Branches, Go,” responds to the metaphysical experience of moving through the woodlands of Vermont. The seven panels of transparent voile, each measuring 15’ in height, are painted with pigments. They hang adjacent to each other, creating a transparent veil that invites the viewer to contemplate the act of passing through.

Patty begins each of her days by spending time in the woods. “After spending 12 years in three of the most densely populated cities in the world (Hong Kong, Beijing, and Tokyo), reconnecting with nature is awakening my sense of my place within it.” -Patty Hudak

Patty Hudak works in her Vermont studio and is a citizen of both Ireland and the USA. She studied painting at Wellesley College, where she was awarded 2 Stecher Scholarships to study abroad in Italy and France. Since 2005, she has practiced art in Hong Kong SAR; Beijing, China; Tokyo, Japan; Sligo, Ireland; and Vermont, USA. In 2016, 2017, and 2019 Hudak was an Artist in Residence at Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory in Yamanashi, Japan, where she studied traditional woodblock printing with Japanese Masters Printers and Carvers, as well as private study with Carving Master Motoharu Asaka. She is a recipient of the Vermont Arts Council’s 2018-2019 Creation Grant and was recently awarded the Vermont Artists to Watch in 2020.
