Sculptural Elements in Clay

Ages 16+

This four-day sculpture workshop will teach students armature building and modeling of a figure, animal or abstract form in oil-based clay. Elaine will offer reference materials and guidance. Upon completion, the sculptures will be ready for casting. Beginners and more advanced students are welcome.

Armature parts, wood bases and wire will be provided for students to purchase at cost, and other supplies will be on hand for student use during the workshop. Students are responsible for ordering oil-based clay in advance of the workshop. Instructor will provide sources for purchasing clay.

Elaine Franz Witten’s bronzes have been exhibited in more than 130 national and international exhibitions as well as museums and regional solo shows. She has received numerous prizes. Her work is in public and private collections in the U.S. and Canada. And she has a piece in the private collection of the former King of Saudi Arabia. In 2013, Ms. Witten became a purveyor of sculpture to the U.S. State Department for use as Presidential gifts. 2023 will mark Ms. Witten’s 20th year of teaching sculpture at SVAC.
