Join us for an immersive studio experience! Explore your art in a supportive open-studio environment with other creative teens and artist Ken Rush.

Have you ever wanted to spend an entire week in the studio? Having enough time, space, support and materials to let your ideas fully develop? This one-week studio intensive welcomes anyone with a desire to make art! The studio belongs to you and you can make whatever you’d like. It’s a special opportunity for those who have ideas simmering–and also for those who aren’t sure where to begin.

Ken is passionate about helping highschoolers find inspiration and run with it. He will help you choose ideas you want to pursue. You may decide to work in drawing, painting, collage, photography, mixed media, printmaking, assemblage and three dimensional construction. Traditional and experimental, representational and abstract methods are all options. We will look at the work of contemporary artists for more ideas. You can explore new ways to use materials and processes as you develop your voice.

Ken Rush is an exhibiting artist with over 40 years of teaching experience. For 37 years, he was the Visual Arts and Art History teacher at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had the privilege of seeing dozens of his graduates go on to art schools and pursue careers in the arts. He has a keen interest in both realistic and abstract approaches. Ken has had numerous solo exhibitions since 1985, and his paintings have been widely reviewed. His work is in public and private collections, including the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the Brooklyn Historical Society, The New York State Museum (Albany), The Bennington Museum, the The SUArt (Syracuse University) Galleries. His 1990s children’s books (The Seltzer Man, Friday’s Journey, and What About Emma?) were reviewed in The New York Times Book Review, Booklist and elsewhere.
