Dates: Saturday, March 6 & Sunday, March 7, 2021
Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (See session information below.)
Cost: SVAC Member: $105; Non-Member: $130
Ages 14+

Chalice Mitchell teaches the basics of oil painting in this online workshop. Focused on still life painting, we will cover laying out the palette, color mixing, blocking in shapes, and creating the illusion of form. As we finish up with winter and look forward to spring, we will be painting from a flower arrangement.

This course will meet 10am – 12pm and 2pm – 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday as we work through the painting. Each step of the process will be demonstrated and explained, and questions will be answered along the way. Through this structured approach, students will learn exactly how Chalice approaches the creation of a still life painting.

Materials List:
11×14″ to 16×20″ canvas (primed & tinted medium grey)
Paints: titanium white, cadmium yellow, yellow ochre, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, viridian green, burnt umber
Mineral spirits (I like Gamsol)
Painting medium (Linseed oil is my favorite)
2 glass jars
A variety of brushes (flats, filberts, angles)
Palette knife (useful but optional)
Paper towels
Palette (I use an old cookie sheet. I know it’s strange but it works! Glass or wood is more normal)
