SVAC Member: $195; Non-Member: $245
Ages 16+

Learn to paint your own landscape in sumie! Chalice Mitchell lived in Japan for eight years where she studied traditional ink painting and exhibited in Tokyo, Kumamoto, Amakusa, and Tokushima. In this course, she distills all that experience to create a step-by-step beginners’ progression that makes ink accessible. She will cover preparing the materials, mixing the ink, laying out the composition, and the basic brush strokes by teaching how to paint rocks, trees, distant mountains, waterfalls, and imply clouds, lakes, and seas. Students will leave the weekend workshop with a solid foundation to begin an ink painting journey.
