This workshop will cover the basic principles of landscape painting in the watercolor medium and will be geared especially to the beginning and intermediate painter. Students will learn glazing techniques, use of color, composition, the importance of value and creating texture through the use of dry brush technique. Painting light and shadow will be introduced, and some drawing experience is recommended. A critique and class discussion will be held at the end of the session.

Robert J. O’Brien is a full-time, award-winning artist and popular local, national and international workshop instructor. He is a signature member of the American, National and New England Watercolor Societies, among others. He recently received the Winsor and Newton: Col-Art America’s Inc. Award at the New England Watercolor Society’s 16th Biennial North American Open Show in Duxbury, MA. In 2017, he won the Combined Donors Award 1 at the 97th International Exhibition of the National Watercolor Society in San Pedro, CA. He was recently featured in the 29th issue of the Art of Watercolour magazine and was featured in the February 2015 issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine, the Dec. 2011/ Feb. 2012 issue of the French watercolor magazine, l’Art de l’Aquarelle, and Splash 15, The Best of Watercolor. Robert serves as the Scholarship Chair for the American Watercolor Society.
