This 3 day workshop will enhance students understanding of color. Day 1 will start in the studio working from a still life to go over considerations of composition, color and techniques based on individual perceptions and goals. Palette knife instruction will be included for those wishing to create more color intense or expressive works. The afternoon will offer plein air opportunities for those wishing to work outside in the immediate area.

Day 2 and 3 will be plein air (outdoor painting) in the beautiful landscape of southwestern Vermont. This workshop is intended for those interested in working with heightened color and in a more impressionistic, expressive or abstract manner per individual styles using oils, acrylics, or pastels . While open to those at all levels, some drawing experience is always helpful. For suggested materials and further details, email cynthiarosenart@gmail.com.

Cynthia Rosen attended the Boston Museum School, and started her art career selling non-objective mixed medium works through galleries in NYC and Philadelphia, all while setting up a not-for-profit corporation to bring art programs into social service organizations. Some years later, after moving to Vermont to raise a family, her focus turned to art education. Her recent return to art professionally has found her traveling the country painting. She has been recognized in the world of plein air painting for offering viewers a more expressive and at times abstracted view of the scene through the use of a palette knife and oil paints.

In 2018, she was featured in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector, The Artists Road (online), and The Outdoor Painter (online). In the Fall, she was invited to film an instructional video “Expressive Landscape Painting: Palette Knife in Plein Air” which was recently released through Streamline Art Videos. In April, 2019 Cynthia will be a faculty member and doing demos at the Plein Air Convention in San Francisco.

2018 included a select show of “American Fauves- The Wild Ones” at Arts At Denver Gallery (CO) (also featured in Southwest Art); “Kaleidoscope” and “Changing Horizons” at Helmholz Fine Art; the Mountain Oyster Club Art Show; selected exhibits at Lake Placid Center For the Arts/Gallery 46 and at the Southern Vermont Art Center and the Salem Community Center (NY). In 2019 to date she has an upcoming solo show “Desertscapes” at the Desert Art Collection (Palm Desert, CA), a 3 person show at Lagerquist Gallery in Atlanta, GA and a solo exhibit in Lake Placid. Other events will be listed on her website.

Cynthia Rosen is a member of Oil Painters of America (OPA), American Impressionist Society (AIS), Outdoor Painter Society (OPS), National Organization of Acrylic and Oil Painters (NOAPS), and American Women Artists (AWA).
