Throughout history humans have created exquisite structures where people gather to pray and to seek inspiration and answers to their deepest questions. They have also sought inspiration in nature. From earliest times natural settings have been considered sacred in many cultures. In Ireland there are remote locations called “thin” places, where the world of reality meets the world of spirit. One will often find ancient stone monuments in such locations.

“While photographing in the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco, I commented to our guide that I could feel the impact of the prayers of the thousands of worshippers who had come there to pray. The relatively modern architecture of the mosque has become the receptacle for this spiritual energy. I believe we all receive, or commune with, that aspect of being that goes beyond our known senses into the realm of spirit. I photograph as a way to connect with spirit.”
