A fun and creative exploration of the connection between preserving indigenous cultures and environmental stewardship through music and art! We will “visit” five different indigenous cultures over the five afternoons of camp, receiving a stamp from each for our “passports.” We will get creative, using recycled materials to mimic indigenous instruments learning folk tales or traditional songs along the way. Through these activities, we hope to absorb some of the wisdom and beauty of ancient cultures and the importance of using our resources responsibly.

COVID-19 protocols in place. Enrollment limited. Scholarships available. To register by email or phone please contact Erin Kaufman at ekaufman@svac.org or 802-367-1306.

About Laura:
Laura has been working in Vermont schools for 30 years. After graduating from SUNY Oswego in 1989, she returned to Vermont with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Writing Arts and started working with kids in a variety of capacities–as a “Creative Writing Mentor” for a struggling student in a very small, under-funded rural elementary school; a Special Ed Para; a Classroom Assistant; a Food Service Technician; a Music and Art Specialist; a Substitute teacher and an After School Programs Leader.  For the past few years she was the site coordinator for After School Programs at Wardsboro Elementary school through the Windham Central Supervisory Union (also as Art and Music counselor for the district’s annual summer “Explorer’s Camp” serving many special needs kids in the West River Valley). Currently she is the art teacher for grades K-8 at the Mountain School in Winhall.  While continuing to pursue very interesting and fulfilling experiments in music composition, producing, recording and performing with her partner in the dream pop band Luminous Crush, she resides peacefully on the family farm in Winhall with her two daughters, two cats, and a dog.
